The Buncombe Rifles are the modern re-creation of a North Carolina
State Militia unit which was formed just before the start of the
American Civil War. The original unit was from the city of Asheville,
Buncombe County, in the mountainous western region of North Carolina,
hence the name.
A member organization of the North-South Skirmish Association,
we are dedicated to the honor and preservation of the memory of
the valiant people and the deeds they performed during the War
of Northern Aggression. In addition, we strive to promote marksmanship
skill with the military weapons of that period through "skirmishing". |
