On February 16, 1986 acceptance of the Buncombe Rifles' application for membership in the North-South Skirmish Association was announced, and we achieved probationary status.

Of the above ten charter members, six are still very active today:

Dave Jackson has served repeatedly as Buncombe Rifles Team Commander and Adjutant, as Provost Marshal for the N-SSA from 1997 to 2002, and has recently been elected Region Commander of the newly-formed "Carolina Region".
Rollin Tompkins serves as webmaster and statistician for the Buncombe Rifles and has also done a number of terms as Team Commander and Adjutant.
Carl Wilcox has been the director of the BRAss Band, providers of the National Opening Ceremony music, since its inception in the early 90's.
Sean Anderson, although stationed all across the country serving in the military, still manages to stay up-to-date and arranges an appearance at as many National Skirmishes as possible.
Mike Parris has been an anchor for this team since its beginning. In addition to serving as Team Commander, Ordnance Sergeant, friend and coach, he has located several practice ranges for the team which is no small feat these days.
Shane Parris is a multiple winner of the Young Skirmisher Award and still holds the National record for 50 Yard Carbine individual score. On the firing line, sometimes it seems like the rest of us just show up!

Chris Bell is currently teaching at the University of Texas in Austin, and therefore doesn't make many shoots "back East".
LaMont DeBruhl has developed interests elsewhere so unfortunately, we don't see much of him these days.
Tragically,
Tex Overby and Gary Gorman have both  succumbed to cancer.

Tex and Gary couldn't make the initial inspection held at the 73rd National in May of 1986.  However, they did make the 440 mile trip overnight Friday to stand before our Regional Inspector Saturday morning at the McNeill's Rangers' Shoot that July. Faced with commitments at home on Sunday, they then turned right around and drove the 440 miles back to Asheville the same day without firing a shot!
